MILLOM TOWN COUNCIL – Mayor’s Report – 2021-22
This year (May 2021 to May 2022) has been another period hit on and off by Covid. Both Cllr Angela Dixon and myself have had the dubious honour of being ‘Covid Mayors’ as the Mayor of Kendal puts it. Despite the restrictions, however, I have to say how pleased with the work that Millom Town Council has completed. This is not an exhaustive list, which we will publish online but,
• We have completed the major project of transforming the play areas at Millom Park and work is still ongoing.
• Arranged to have repairs carried out on the Haverigg Beach Café roof, doors, electricity and drainage
• Made significant repairs to Haverigg and Millom Toilets
• Liaised with HMP Haverigg to direct outside working parties removing weeds, planting and clearing footpaths plus other things. The results have been pleasing to all parties, especially the public
• Been successful in securing funding through the CCC Environment Group a grant which enable Church Walk to be resurfaced as was the Sandham Lane in Haverigg footpath. This also included pavement areas at Haverigg Tannery bridge to be constructed.
• Supported the Shop Local and Welcome Back organised by Jenny Brumby and CBC which has seen benches placed in and around the town, including the market square and also the lamps painted in the market square for the first time in many years.
• Liaised closely with Simon Donnelly who is organising the Platinum Jubilee Picnic-in-the-park with a grant and helping to ensure that all legal, financial and safety regulations are met
I would like to thank both amazing clerks who deal with a huge number of enquiries from the public, especially now that CCC and CBC do not have at present an active local contact point in addition to their usual work load. From a personal point of view, I would like to thank them both for their friendship and support during times of difficulty in my life.
I have been delighted with the way that fellow councillors have pulled together to make many projects work. I cannot think of a single councillor who has not shouldered their part of the load. I thank them all.
Finally, it has been an interesting eighteen months as acting Mayor and Mayor. Many more ups than downs as well as being most enjoyable. I have very much appreciated the honour.
