Bugingham Palace!
Over the last year something amazing has emerged in the Muncaster Castle gardens.
I caught up with Hannah Clapp from the Muncaster Team to chat about their new supersized bug hotel!
Wow! A bug hotel like no other! How did this come about?
The entire Muncaster team was presented with a brief; to come up with an idea to enhance the exterior of an existing building, soon to be our Eco Barn, whilst incorporating the beauty of nature and highlighting the conservation work that is the backbone of the Muncaster Estate. It wasn’t long before the seed to create a huge bug hotel as an art installation was sown
Who took on this amazing project?
The job of creating ‘Bugingham Palace’, as it soon became known, fell to my husband Martin and I, a challenge that we were delighted to take on. As time went on our passion for the project grew and grew.
How long did it take to build?
We spent eight weekends nurturing this fabulous creation, incorporating our own ideas with those of Iona and Peter (Frost-Pennington), as well as other members of the Muncaster Team.
What was your favourite thing about building Bugingham Palace?
We really enjoyed challenging ourselves to design the many rooms of the palace to be individual and to work effectively as a piece of art as well as a sanctuary for wildlife. We could not be prouder of the result. It truly is a work of art!
