Jubilee Craft Ideas!
Wooden craft stick puppets
Create your own cast of characters by decorating some wooden craft sticks. I used a selection of felt tip markers and chalk pens to colour mine. You could also use paints and even add paper, tapes, pom poms and anything else you have in the craft box!
If using paints or felt tip pens, you may wish to seal the sticks with a coat of PVA glue once decorated to prevent the inks transferring to your fingers.
Put on a puppet show or you could even re-create the coronation!
Fast bunting
Cut out fabric triangles with pinking shears (to prevent the edges from fraying), sew to a piece of ribbon or bias binding at evenly spaced intervals.
…or…
Cut out paper triangles (or use plastic tablecloth) with paper scissors, punch a couple of holes in the top edges and thread through some ribbon or string to hang.
…then…
Decorate with sew/stick on embellishments and/or paint/colour the paper.
Experiment with different sized triangles for different spaces. My bunting is made from paper and ribbon and decorated with washi tape and felt tips pens.

Pom poms!
Pom poms in red, white and blue make great decorations and accessories.
Hang them like bunting, make into a wreath for the door, wear them on you wrist or as a bag charm… the sky’s the limit!
Wind strands of red, white and blue coloured yarns together to create a multi tone effect.
You could even add googly eyes to make pom pom pals!
Paper plate crowns
Find the centre of your paper plate and cut evenly distributed slits in the surface stopping at the rim. (Take care when using sharp cutting tools).
Push the triangles created up and decorate to your heart’s content! I sprayed mine gold and added embellishments using glue dots.
Your Crafts!
Milly has got her knitting needles out for the first time in 30 years and has been busy making poppies for the Clock Tower cascade! (See the article below for more information about how you can get involved in this fab project too!). This colourful batch is Kitty approved!
Linda has made lots of lovely latch hook rugs with wonderful animal pictures. Here are some of my favourites from this year’s designs. Their expressions are just perfect.
Lloyd paints mixed media abstract landscapes with collage within them. They are on display in his Gallery in Millom.
Share your makes with and you may see them featured in a future edition of millom.org.uk Magazine!
Weeping Wall of Poppies
Calling all parishioners, knitters, crocheters, craftspeople, schools, and creative individuals!
Millom Town Council are seeking volunteer knitters and crocheters to help them create a weeping wall of poppies to be sited on the Clock Tower for Remembrance Sunday 2022.
Knitting and Crochet are very therapeutic crafts that are good for emotional well-being.
There are lots of free patterns out there online. Rose’s Woolcrafts’ in Millom has a selection of poppy knitting and crochet patterns available and is also selling red wool for poppy making at a reduced price.
To get involved and for more information call 01229 772340 or email
Drop your completed poppies off at The Town Council or Rose’s Woolcrafts, 32 Lapstone Road, Millom, LA18 4BU.
